A psychiatrist is a type of physician that prescribes medication in addition to counseling patients. Their duty is to engage in counseling methods, using psychotherapy, behavior modification, crisis intervention, and hospitalization while being able to gather research about issues concerning different areas of psychiatric practice.

Education:

To be a psychiatrist you need an extensive educational background. Once you have graduated from medical school, internships and residency training must be completed and board exams passed before one can be licensed as a board-certified psychiatrist.
