"When a deep injury is done to us. we never recover unti
we forgive."
-Alan Paton

Forgiveness is for our own growth and happiness. When we hold on to hurt, pain, resentment, and anger it harms us far more than it harms the offender. Forgiveness frees us to live in the present and it allows us to move on without anger or contempt or seeking revenge. The nature of forgiveness is to muster up whatever compassion you have left for the person that has wronged you. If you cannot do this — if you cannot be compassionate toward that individual, anger may eat away at you and then give birth to bitterness. This is the message Alan Paton wants to understand and burn into our mind and moals values. With bittness comes grudges and nothing is more pain to oneself than a long lasting hatred towarda a person you could have forgave. Although it is not an easy desion to simply forgive, you cannot expect to forget and not reconcile. There is much time to forgive without harborng all the negative emotions.
